Dear Class of '75 Music Lovers, here is something you may not have heard for 50 years -- our Alma Mater! If anyone knows the story of how Joe Axup chose this hymn and wrote the lyrics, please let us know. (Maybe Mark Axup? Just a guess....). I got in touch with our professional musician classmate, Mark Dowlearn, who kindly provided this recording by removing the lyrics of "For All the Saints", leaving only the music, which was composed by Englishman Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1906. It has been described as "one of the finest hymn tunes of the 20th Century." Intended to be performed on All Saints' Day, it's somehow powerful but sentimental. Nice choice, Mr. Axup! Mark Dowlearn also did us the favor of changing this recording to F Major, which makes it lower and easier to sing -- because we'll all want to sing it at the reunion! Thanks, Mark! I'm going to start warming up my voice right now. By the way, the music is known as "Sine Nomine" - Without Name, for those like me who never took Latin.
